Berserk is a magic spell in Final Fantasy VII Remake. It is the highest-level spell provided by Binding Materia Binding Materia, and inflicts the Berserk Berserk status on a target. This is a mixed status effect, which increases their Strength Strength while reducing their Defense Defense. This means it both increases the amount of damage a target deals, while also increasing the damage they can receive.

The Berserk spell changes greatly from the spell in the original Final Fantasy VII, which caused the target to only attack and receive more damage, but also deal more damage. In the original Final Fantasy VII, it was therefore more often used as an offensive spell, as opposed to in Final Fantasy VII Remake where it is better served as a supportive spell.

Use[]

Berserk costs 5 MP to cast, and can be used by characters with binding materia at level 3, and has both offensive and supportive uses. Offensively, it can be used effectively against enemies to kill them quicker, while when used as a supportive spell, it can increase the physical damage dealt by an ally.

Berserk must be used strategically to take advantage of it, especially with allies that rely on their strength to deal physical damage, such as Tifa or Cloud (especially in Punisher Mode). In this way, it can be used on the allies to increase their physical damage, but should be paired with Barrier to mitigate the increased physical damage received. It can also be cast offensively against enemies to increase the damage they receive without even needing to cast it on allies.

As an alternative to casting Berserk, one can equip Fury Ring on an ally to permanently apply the Berserk status instead.
