Berserk is a status in Final Fantasy V. Berserked characters or monsters will deal increased damage with their normal physical attacks, but are forced to execute a basic physical attack every turn. Berserked targets are immune to the effects of confuse, charm, and the Lilith Rod, nor can they be controlled. Berserked characters will not cover for allies. Monsters will not counter when berserked, but characters with Counter set may still. Via the Kiss of Blessing bug in the SNES version, the player can inflict berserk on targets that are meant to be immune to it. In all versions besides the defunct 2013 version, berserk resets the unit's ATB.
Berserk characters deal increased damage via the following formula:
Berserk status can be used for offense to strengthen physical attackers and for defense by forcing enemies to use their normal attack over their other abilities (e.g. useful against Shield Dragon). The Berserker job is in a constant berserked state and can learn "Auto-Berserk" as a passive ability to bestow to other jobs.
