Use[]
Berserk can be used by characters with the Mystify Materia at level 2. It inflicts the Berserk status on a target, forcing them to only physically attack a random enemy, lasting throughout the battle unless the status is removed, and increasing their physical damage to 150% of their normal damage. It has an 80% probability of working when cast on enemies, and a 100% chance when cast on allies, but has a fairly high MP cost at 18.
When cast on enemies, Berserk's usefulness varies. On enemies reliant on physical damage, it is dangerous to cast it, and will simply make them stronger. On enemies that rely on magical damage, however, it restricts them to a weaker attack. The main drawback with this, however, is that many larger enemies are simply immune to the status. The item War Gong has the same effect, and works on all enemies with no MP cost.
Berserk can also be cast on allies, and is guaranteed to succeed. This can be useful in fights to cast on allies where the only plan is for them to physically attack as it will increase their damage. However, War Gong can have an identical effect without using MP or requiring the Mystify Materia to be equipped.
Though no enemies cast the spell Berserk, many enemies can inflict the status with different enemy abilities.
Annotations[]
- ↑ Berserk can only be reflected if the enemy is vulnerable to Berserk status; against enemies that are immune, the spell will not reflect.
