Causes single/multiple targets to attack uncontrollably.Description
Berserk is a Wht Mag spell in Final Fantasy IX for Dagger used to inflict the status of the same name that berserks one or multiple targets, making them only use their Attack command onto a random target on the opposing party. Berserk is vulnerable to Reflect and works with Return Magic. Berserk can be cast by Armstrong and Ozma.
Dagger learns Berserk from the Magic Racket for 30 AP. The earliest she can use it is by buying the racket from Lindblum after the Battle of Alexandria events; Dagger can then use it when the party takes sail on the Blue Narciss, however, at this time her commands commonly fail.
Berserk inflicts the Berserk status to one or multiple targets at the cost of 6 MP, which makes the affected attack the opposing party with their normal physical attack whose Bonus is 50% stronger than without Berserk. The chance to inflict the status to a target with the spell is as follows:
Afterward, two randomly generated values determine if the spell will hit:
- A random number 0...99 >= Chance, the spell misses its mark
- A random number 0...99 < Target Magic Evade, the target evades
Berserk makes the affected attack a member of the opposing party on their turn with their physical attack that is stronger than normal. The player can use it on either allies or enemies; if the party has a member whose only purpose is to always use Attack, anyway, then giving them Berserk improves the damage they dish out. At a cheap MP cost, Berserk could thus be useful in even random encounters, as in boss battles, it may be a good idea to leave the party sober in case they need to step into a support role. For enemies, Berserk should be used on foes that normally focus on spellcasting or support and have a weak physical attack.
