How do you even fight something this big?

Prompto

Bennu is a boss in Final Fantasy XV fought during the A Legend Is Born sidequest; in Chapter 15, the party can find Randolph in Lestallum who sends them out to slay fearsome foes for material for crafting equipment. Bennu yields a Jet-black Beak that, when given to Randolph, earns the Iron Duke greatsword.

Bestiary

Subspecies of zu dubbed the "blue-winged terror" due to the hue of its plumage. Much like the zu, it flies in from afar during breeding season. Although deemed quite dangerous, the bennu is a relatively low priority target for the Hunters due to the infrequency with which it appears and the risk of intense retaliation should the hunt fail.

Battle

Bennu in Leide from FFXV

Bennu is fought on a large open plain in Leide; there are a few rocks situated about the area that Noctis can warp atop to immediately restore MP or crouch near to recover HP, though there are no high warp points to hang from to restore HP in safety.

Bennu's size means it can obstruct the player's view. It takes increased damage from polearms and machinery, as well as from Lightning magic.

Bennu can attack swiftly and not all of its attacks can be phased through. When ground-borne it steps and jumps on the party with its giant claws. It can flap its colossal wings to create a burst of wind that knocks everyone back. It can attacks with is colossal beak.

Bennu takes up into the air and swoops down at the party. If the player interrupts its takeoff, it will fall and become Vulnerable. It cannot be targeted when it is in the air. Bennu's soaring attack has a long parry window and, when countered, both damages bennu and leaves it in a "Vulnerable" state, leaving it open to attacks from the party as well as Lightning Elemancy.

An Astral can be summoned during the battle.

Strategy

The player should bring an assortment of Potions, Hi-Potions, and Phoenix Downs or Mega Phoenixes.

Armiger, Armiger Unleashed and Ignis's Enhancement boost Noctis's damage output. Prompto's Piercer (aimed at bennu's head), Ignis's Overwhelm, and Gladiolus's Dawnhammer are all effective Techniques. It can be arduous to damage it with regular weapons, but royal arms work well.

Musical themes

The theme to the battle is "Omnis Lacrima".
