Bennu in Leide from FFXV

The Bennu alights in Final Fantasy XV.

The Bennu (ベンヌ, Bennu?) is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy Dimensions. It is typically presented as variant of the Zu, and in some cases has an association with the Phoenix.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy XI[]

Roc 3 (FFXI)

The Bennu appears as a roc notorious monster in Abyssea - Altepa. Defeating it grants the Bennu Deplumer title, and it notably drops the Honorbound, Snow Satchet, and Atma of the Ascending One.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

The Bennu appears as an enemy in The Final Coil of Bahamut - Turn 3 The Final Coil of Bahamut - Turn 3 as part of the Phoenix encounter. Bennus continuously spawn throughout the encounter, and any fallen Bennus will be revived by the Phoenix's Flames of Rebirth, buffing other nearby Bennus in the process. The party needs to take care to keep the Bennus' bodies away from each other to avoid these buffs. Once defeated twice, a Bennu cannot be revived again.

The Bennu is also available as a mount for purchase on the Mog Station.

Final Fantasy XV[]

Bennu

The Bennu appears as a boss during the sidequest A Legend Is Born in Chapter 15. As part of the quest, the party can find Randolph in Lestallum who sends them out to slay fearsome foes for crafting materials. The Bennu yields a Jet-black Beak that, when given to Randolph, earns the Iron Duke greatsword.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[]

Upon the Conqueror's defeat, Sarah attempts to heal one of the birds in vain. In recognition of their efforts to save them, the spirit of the Bennu bestows the Phoenix Eidolon to the party.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]

FFBE Bennu Sprite

The Bennu appears as a boss in the Volcanic Grounds dungeon, and later as a regular enemy in the Cave of Rebirth. A boss Bennu can again be encountered in the Ancient Ruins; when completing the dungeon for the first time, it will be defeated by Madam Edel before the party can engage it. To obtain credit for defeating the Bennu the party must repeat the dungeon.

Etymology[]

Bennu is an ancient Egyptian deity, represented as a bird, that is linked with the sun, creation, and rebirth. It is often thought the inspiration of the Greek legends of the phoenix.
