Battle[]
Belphegor uses fire-elemental attacks. He is surrounded by three Cubes which absorb damage until they are destroyed, and can use them to attack four times in one turn. Using elemental magic will cause Belphegor to change his elemental weakness and items which can be stolen.
Strategy[]
Because Belphegor exclusively uses fire spells, the player should equip a Fire Shield on all characters. The Fire Cape found in Mount Gulg is also useful. Additionally, it is advisable to have an Elementalist equipped with Mysterio. When Mysterio is active, any character with a shield will suffer no damage from Belphegor's magic attacks, and his physical attacks will only do one damage. The Elementalist and a character with a cape and shield will be healed.
It is advisable to bring water-elemental weapons. A Black Mage with Magic Might or the Leaf series of spells is also useful.
Etymology[]
Belphegor is a demon and one of the seven princes of Hell who suggests ingenious inventions that will make people rich, although Bishop and witch-hunter Peter Binsfeld believed Belphegor to tempt by means of laziness. According to Peter Binsfeld's Binsfeld's Classification of Demons, Belphegor is the chief demon of the deadly sin Sloth.
In demonology,Belphegor originated as the Assyrian Baal-Peor, the Moabitish god to whom the Israelites became attached in Shittim (Numbers 25:3), which was associated with licentiousness and orgies. As a demon, he is described in Kabbalistic writings as the "disputer," an enemy of the sixth Sephiroth "beauty." When summoned, he can grant riches, the power of discovery and ingenious invention. His role as a demon was to sow discord among men and seduce them to evil through the apportionment of wealth.
