Its claw, lightning, and Heave attacks are deadly. Watch out for the Meteor it casts when it dies. Cast Protect or defend with the Triangle button to survive. Kimahri can learn Mighty Guard.

The Behemoth King is an enemy in Final Fantasy X found in the final dungeon. It is a stronger version of the regular Behemoth, and has a powerful dying attack.

Battle[]

FFX Meteor

Meteor.

Behemoth King is a powerful enemy who uses both magical and physical attacks. In addition to its physical attack and Thundara, it uses Heave against party members, and Thundaga against aeons. After falling below 33% HP, it will use Mighty Guard, and use Tail and Flare instead of its physical attack and Thundara. If Provoked, it uses a physical attack with reduced accuracy.

When defeated, it unleashes Meteor as a final attack, which is avoided if Behemoth King is killed by a counterattack, Yojimbo's Zanmato or, if on International or PAL version, a taming weapon (no longer works once the capture limit has been reached).

Behemoth King drops weapons with SOS Overdrive and Zombietouch. It also drops armor with SOS Protect, SOS Shell, and SOS Reflect.

Strategy[]

NulShock or armor with Lightningproof/Lightning Eater protects against Thundara and Thundaga, though these are not Behemoth King's most devastating attacks. Its most dangerous move is Meteor, but Protect and the defend command both halve the damage. Combining them mitigates Meteor's damage to 1/4. The player can also use Stamina Tablet/Tonic or Auto-Life. An easy way to survive is to have one party member escape before Behemoth King uses Meteor, so even if the party is wiped out, the player does not get a Game Over.

Since Meteor is not triggered by the Behemoth King being killed by a counterattack, the player can give a character with Provoke a Counterattack/Evade & Counter weapon, then provoke the Behemoth when its HP is low and defend until it dies from the counterattacks. This also means Nulshock or lightning-protecting armor is not necessary.

Etymology[]

Behemoth is a beast mentioned in Job 40:15–24. In addition to mythological creatures, it is likened to dinosaurs, especially sauropods, as well as elephants, hippos, rhinos, and bison. Metaphorically, the term behemoth denotes "an extremely large or powerful entity".
