The Behemoth Horn is a weapon for Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII. It is has six unlinked Materia slots, and in terms of pure physical stats, is Red XIII's greatest weapon below his ultimate weapon, the Limited Moon.

Like all Red XIII's weapons, Behemoth Horn is not rendered or visible in-game, and also cannot be thrown.

Obtained[]

The Behemoth Horn can be obtained in the Shinra Bldg. during "Mako Cannon Rampage". From the 59th floor, the player must go down the emergency stairs, and at the 4th stair set, it is found in a white bag. If not obtained then, it is permanently missed.

Mechanics[]

As the Behemoth Horn has a base Attack stat bonus of 91, the base damage for physical attacks when the Behemoth Horn is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Red XIII's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Behemoth Horn also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 75%, and grants a +26 bonus to Red XIII's Magic stat.

Use[]

The Behemoth Horn is possible to miss, but is an extremely powerful weapon in terms of stats. Though its accuracy boost is fairly low, it provides the second-highest Attack boost of any of Red XIII's weapons, and the third-highest Magic boost. Compared to the Spring Gun Clip, the Behemoth Horn is better for physical attacks, but weaker for spellcasting, due to lower Magic and its slots being unlinked. However, the Behemoth Horn uniquely provides a great Vitality and Spirit boost, making it useful for Red XIII's survivability.

The Behemoth Horn has six Materia slots, though all are unlinked. Red XIII is normally geared more towards spellcasting, due to his own stats and the high Magic boost provided by his weapons, including Behemoth Horn. However, the Behemoth Horn gears Red XIII slightly more towards physical attacks due to its own stat boosts. This means that the player can give Red XIII several Independent and Command Materia to capitalize on this, as they are less reliant on linked positions, while Red XIII can still have a few Magic and Summon Materia on the side to take advantage of his Magic stat.

Once obtained, the Behemoth Horn is Red XIII's best weapon for physical damage until acquiring the Limited Moon, but entirely outclassed by the Spring Gun Clip for magic damage. As Red XIII is better built towards magic damage anyway, this is normally the better choice for him unless players prefer to use Red XIII for physical damage. Though the Limited Moon deals more damage overall, and is more likely to hit the 9999 damage limit, it is slightly less reliable than the Behemoth Horn due to its damage formula being based on Red XIII's current MP, meaning Behemoth Horn is a more consistent physical damage weapon. Limited Moon is available right after the Raid on Midgar events, but this segment has numerous bosses that the player can use the Behemoth Horn for if they have Red XIII in their party.

Etymology[]

The name likely refers to the Behemoth enemy from the game itself. It is a recurring powerful and usefully late game enemy in the Final Fantasy series. Behemoth is a beast mentioned in Job 40:15–24. In addition to mythological creatures, it is likened to dinosaurs, especially sauropods, as well as elephants, hippos, rhinos, and bison. Metaphorically, the term behemoth denotes "an extremely large or powerful entity".
