If you attack Behemoth with physical attacks he will counter with Take Down.

Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry

The Behemoth is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI, and is one of the more powerful enemies on the Floating Continent.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Behemoths can attack in groups of two. They counter offensive esper summons with Meteor and most other attacks with Beatdown, which deals massive damage.

Locke can steal Hermes Sandals, a useful Relic, from them.

Strategy[]

Behemoths are weak to Ice Ice, so Blizzara spells are effective. Strago can also use Lv 4 Flare for heavy damage. Like most enemies on the Floating Continent, the Behemoth is susceptible to Break, allowing for the player to easily dispatch the creatures if they happened to learn the spell from the Catoblepas esper.

A way of providing Invisible Invisible, such as the esper Phantom, makes dealing with Behemoths easier, as their normal attack pattern is purely physical.
