The Behemoth is an enemy and a boss from Final Fantasy II. It is a rare encounter found fought near Mysidia, making it an unfortunate find for those trying to journey to Mysidia early in the game.

It is encountered as a boss when Firion and his party, along with Gordon, enter the Palamecian Coliseum to rescue the abducted Princess Hilda. They realize too late that it is a trap, and the Behemoth is unleashed on the heroes.

With its defeat the party will gain access to the Coliseum's dungeon, from which Princess Hilda may be rescued.

It also appears as a boss on the Ekmet Teloess floor of the Arcane Labyrinth, and serves as the boss of the Arcane Labyrinth's Northwest Quarter if the player has learned between 7 and 12 main story Key Terms.

Stats[]

Battle[]

The Behemoth is a deadly foe, but a simpler than the Lamia Queen, which precedes it. Behemoth does not use any status-effecting spells, but prefers brute force, which is backed by an impressive Attack stat. He boasts high HP and Defense stats, which lengthen the fight.

Strategy[]

The Behemoth, while intimidating, can be an easy fight. While it inflicts heavy damage with its attack, its low number of hits and sole use of physical attacks makes Blink very effective against it, potentially leaving it unable to inflict any damage at all.

Etymology[]

Behemoth is a beast mentioned in Job 40:15–24. In addition to mythological creatures, it is likened to dinosaurs, especially sauropods, as well as elephants, hippos, rhinos, and bison. Metaphorically, the term behemoth denotes "an extremely large or powerful entity".
