Two years past, Nabradia, fearing the military might of the Archadian Empire, made treaty with Rozarria to place troops from that land near her borders. Fearing an invasion of the Valendian continent by its sworn enemy, Rozarria, Archadia immediately exerted political pressure on the small kingdom. Yet Nabradia did not accede to their demands, and Emperor Gramis of Archadia was compelled to use force. Several days after the Archadian invasion, a terrible explosion reduced the once proud city of Nabudis to naught but rubble. Though the city fell in the space of a night, the Mist that now swirls where it once stood has transformed the land into a barren waste for eternity. Even now, the cause of this cataclysm is not fully understood.
The Battle of Nabudis took place only a short time before the Battle of Nalbina Fortress, which ended the war between Archadia and Dalmasca. Not much is ever revealed about the once great city. It was two years before the start of Final Fantasy XII when the Arcadian Empire laid siege to Nabudis; this, however was but a simple guise, as Judge Zecht came to Nabudis with the Midlight Shard, under Doctor Cid's orders.
He was tasked to see how deifacted nethicite worked and reacted. The results were more horrible than anyone could imagine; within moments the entire population of the city was wiped out, the colossal royal palace was destroyed and the whole area smothered in a thick mist. Today, Nabudis is a hulk swarming with the souls of the Nabradian and Archadian soldiers killed in the destruction, full of regret and resentment.
Though the Archadian armada moved towards the next battle at Nalbina, Zecht wanted no further part in the war. Consumed with personal guilt, the Judge Magister abandoned his name and rank in the festering Necrohol and fled. Though not a confirmed casualty, he was soon replaced by Judge Gabranth, and remained absent from imperial records until his vengeful encounter with Doctor Cid two years later.
