The Battle of Big Bridge takes place after Galuf's return to his home world. Galuf musters the army of Bal and marches to the Big Bridge en route to Castle Exdeath, but he is forced to halt the advance when Exdeath presents Bartz, Lenna, and Faris as hostages.
Galuf takes the wind drake and infiltrates the castle single-handedly, confronting Gilgamesh within. Galuf successfully releases his companions, and they return to the Bridge.
The Light Warriors are forced to engage numerous monsters on their way across and encounter Gilgamesh in the middle. Again, Gilgamesh flees during the battle, but the party fights several more times as they continue. When they meet Krile on the other side of the bridge, Exdeath activates his Barrier Towers. The barrier collides with Bartz, Lenna, Galuf, and Faris, and sends them flying to Gloceana.
Aftermath[]
The Light Warriors make their way through the hostile terrain of Gloceana until they reach the Moogle Village. Krile, having returned to the castle with the army, learns from her moogle companion where they are and retrieves them with the wind drake.
The capture of Bartz, Lenna, and Faris actually aids Bal. They hadn't known how close the barrier had been to completion; if Galuf hadn't been forced to pull back, the army would have been crushed. However, they suffered heavy losses at the hands of Gilgamesh and the wind drake was injured. The flight to Gloceana left it near death, forcing the Light Warriors to travel to Drakenvale for dragon grass. Although they eventually bring down the barrier with the help of Xezat Matias Surgate, Castle Exdeath does not fall until the Light Warriors storm it following the death of Galuf. The fortress vanishes when Exdeath restores the single world by shattering the last crystals.
