The Battle Trumpet is a weapon for Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII. It is available at the Underwater Reactor, and has strong stats, a small boost to his critical hit rate, and six linked Materia slots. The main drawback is that its Materia slots have no AP growth, and no Magic stat boost.
As with other Cait Sith weapons, the Battle Trumpet itself does not strike an enemy, but commands his Mog, meaning Cait Sith's damage is still Hit rather than Shout. However, its Attack stat still counts towards damage dealt.
Obtained[]
The Battle Trumpet is found in the Submarine Docks in the Junon Underwater Reactor during "Clash in the Deep Sea". This is an unrevisitable location and so the weapon is missed if not picked up before boarding the submarine.
Mechanics[]
As the Battle Trumpet has a base Attack stat bonus of 95, the base damage for physical attacks when it is equipped is in the following formula:
where "Level" is Cait Sith's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Battle Trumpet also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 95%, and grants no bonus to Cait Sith's Magic. Battle Trumpet also boosts Cait Sith's critical hit rate.
Use[]
The Battle Trumpet is available at the Junon Underwater Reactor, and in terms of pure physical stats, outclasses the Crystal M-phone. However, its lack of Magic boost and having no Materia growth are significant drawbacks for Cait Sith, due to his playstyle. Cait Sith has one of the best Magic stats in the game, and his physical damage is fairly unreliable, meaning that he is best played as a spellcaster. As such, the Battle Trumpet gears Cait Sith more towards a physical damage role, for which he is fairly unreliable though still viable.
The Battle Trumpet has six Materia slots, all of which are linked. Cait Sith is typically played as a spellcaster, meaning that the slots would typically be used for Magic and Summon Materia, and should be paired with Support Materia. If using Battle Trumpet, Cait Sith is better suited for physical damage, meaning Command and Independent Materia would take precedence. Cait Sith can also equip any mastered Materia to the slots, with no fear of wasting any AP growth.
Battle Trumpet outclasses Crystal M-phone in pure physical damage. Due to Cait Sith's playstyle as a mage, it is often preferable to instead equip the Crystal M-phone for its Materia growth and Magic boost, or better yet, the Gold M-phone, with two extra slots and a significant Magic boost. Battle Trumpet is effectively made redundant by both the Starlight Phone and HP Shout, which have greater stats and Materia slots.
