Battle Harness is an accessory in Final Fantasy XII that allows the wearer to counterattack normal enemy attacks with an attack with their equipped weapon, and can counter repeatedly if the enemy attack combos. How often the effect activities depends on the wearer's Speed stat. The harness also gives +2 to Strength.

In the original PlayStation 2 versions, the Battle Harness is bought for 1,000 gil in Dalmasca Estersand, Dalmasca Westersand (after the Leviathan), and the Dreadnought Leviathan. It is found in a treasure in Ogir-Yensa Sandsea's Platform 2 - Refinery (after descending the stairs before entering Nam-Yensa Map 27 Ogir Yensa Sandsea), and Tchita Uplands' Oliphzak Rise (the treasure is in along the southwest border Map 44 Tchita Uplands).

It is made in the Bazaar in the "Back Harness" pack by selling one Throat Wolf Blood, whereupon it costs only 800 gil. Throat Wolf Blood a monograph drop for the Worgens in northern Estersand and southern Mosphoran Highwaste.

In the updated Zodiac versions, the Battle Harness is bought for 1,000 gil in Mosphoran Highwaste (after obtaining the Treaty-Blade). It is found as a treasure in Barheim Passage's Op Sector 36 (always appears), Stilshrine of Miriam's Walk of Sky (always appears), and Subterra's Penumbra - North (70& chance to appear, 80% chance to contain gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Battle Harness without the Diamond Armlet), as well as the Trial Mode Stage 79 (with Diamond Armlet). Battle Harness is still made in the bazaar with the same requirements as before, now even cheaper at 600 gil.

Characters can use Counter by equipping the Battle Harness as an accessory. In Zodiac versions, the Genji Helm also provides the ability to Counter. Genji Armor boosts the chance to counter, but does not grant counter on its own.

The chance to counter an attack is determined by the character's speed.[1]

Counter chance with Genji Armor:

Counter only triggers when the character:

  1. is in the Charge Stage.
  2. is not running or walking.
  3. is not being knocked back.
  4. receives a "regular melee" attack (not ranged, tech or spells).
  • Counter is 1-hit only. It does not combo.
  • Any weapon can be used to counter.
  • Counter may happen each time while being hit. A hit combo may be countered multiple times.
  • Counter may happen even if the attack missed / is blocked.
  • Counter acts like regular melee attacks. Added effect on the weapon may trigger.

The accessory is worth trying out against enemies that attack physically a lot, or may combo a lot. Its Strength +2 is also a good though small boost. Countering interrupt the action the character is charging for, which can interrupt spells. It is best used with the Genji Armor.
