Combat Boots.

Description

The Battle Boots are a mid to late game add-on in Final Fantasy IX that everyone can equip. They teach Initiative to Freya, which allows the player party to ambush enemies more often; MP Attack, which expends the user's MP to deal 150% of normal damage with Attack, stacking with Killer abilities and Elem-Atk; and HP+20%. The Battle Boots give a bonus to the wearer's Strength when they level up with them equipped. They are made via synthesis and are also themselves used for making other add-ons.

Like many equipment pieces in Final Fantasy Tactics, the Battle Boots are based on an equipment piece from Final Fantasy Tactics.

Obtain[]

Battle Boots synthesis from FFIX Remastered

The Battle Boots are synthesized in Daguerreo for 6,500 gil, the Feather Boots, and a Wing Edge. The Feather Boots are also synthesized in Daguerreo and Wing Edges can be bought from Mene. The Battle Boots are also stolen from Garland and Hades and earned as a reward for catching 45 frogs in the frog catching minigame.

Mechanics[]

The Battle Boots provide 2 to Defense and 1 to Magic Defense. They give a +2 bonus to the wearer's Strength when they level up with them equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Strength is used for damage calculations and for HP growth.

Use[]

The Battle Boots are good for learning MP Attack and HP+20%. MP Attack is a great way to boost the power of normal Attack as it stacks with other enhancements. Initiative is not especially useful, but could be equipped when the player is facing random encounters if Freya has the Magic Stones to spare.

Other add-ons offer better level up bonuses, but level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary even when preparing for superbosses. As the best stat-boosting equipment become available at the end of the game, the best result would be to restrict EXP intake until then.

The Battle Boots are needed in synthesis for making the Bracer, and endgame arm guard that is especially good for Amarant, as well as the Running Shoes.
