A young, carefree man who travels the world accompanied by his loyal chocobo, Boko. After the appearance of a meteorite and a young woman named Lenna, he is chosen to be a Warrior of Light by the Crystals to defeat Exdeath. While he doesn't let much trouble him, he still can't get over his fear of heights.
Description
Bartz is a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia who can be recruited at the end of Chapter 3 of the main storyline.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Bartz's appearance is identical to that of the original Dissidia game, which is based on his Amano artwork. He wears a blue sleeveless shirt, gray pants, pointed boots, and a flowing cape. He wears a golden pauldron on his left shoulder that is styled to look like a chocobo.
His second costume is modeled after his outfit as a Freelancer in Final Fantasy V: a white shirt and trousers, a blue tunic, green boots and a red cape.
His third costume is modeled after his outfit as a Knight in Final Fantasy V. He has blue eyes and wears blue circlet, wears matching blue shirt and trousers under red armor and shoes with gold lining.
Personality[]
Bartz is a cheerful adventurer who is eager to explore the unknown lands within. He is easygoing and casual with his new allies, but he doesn't hesitate to chide them when they take reckless actions. Bartz is always supportive of his friends when they are having troubles, reassuring them about their abilities and about their self-worth, particularly when they are confronted with their missing memories.
Though he has a positive and friendly attitude, Bartz rarely talks about his deeper feelings. However, he has a strong sense of responsibility to his world and his friends, as well as to doing the right thing.
Bartz maintains his affinity for chocobos thanks to his friendship with Boko from his home world. He will always help out a chocobo in need, whether they are in physical danger or shy around a love interest. He seems to think he can talk to them, although Krile's comments indicate he doesn't actually understand their language.
Story[]
Summoned into the conflict by Materia, Bartz joins the party as they conclude their travels through the Lost Kingdom of Thronus. They find him as soon as he enters the world, floating through a Torsion and falling to the ground. He had become separated from his friends and was wandering through the Torsion when the party neutralized it. Once Zidane explains what happened, Bartz decides he'll travel with them. As a wandering adventurer, and saying he has nowhere else to be, he has no opposition to exploring a new world.
In the World of Darkness, General Leo tells Bartz of Gilgamesh's respect for him, even saying that Gilgamesh would give his life for Bartz. Bartz is shocked that anyone would have such a high opinion of him. After Leo leaves, Bartz's Dark Manikin arrives in distress. Bartz realizes that the manikin is carrying his painful memories and immediately tells it to return them to him. The manikin, which had been manipulated by Exdeath to blame Bartz for its sorrow, explains that Materia took the memories because she needed "that adventurous heart" and claims that it doesn't mind carrying everything painful. Bartz sees through the lie and offers it all of his own, happy memories. When the manikin strikes him down it realizes immediately that it must oppose Exdeath and flees, leaving Bartz's friends to find him unconscious.
Although they are eventually able to get Bartz to stand up, he remains catatonic and unresponsive. The others try repeatedly to get a reaction from him by talking to him and encouraging him as they make their way through the Floating Ruins that Exdeath summons. When they encounter Bartz's Dark Manikin it pretends to be a servant of Exdeath and gives a speech about the power of the Void before declaring "Just kidding!" With the strength of Bartz's positive feelings, it had overcome the pain it carried and returns all of its memories, good and bad. Before fading away, it thanks him for making his heart so full. Bartz wakes up, none the worse for wear.
Bartz dismisses Galuf's scolding by saying he knew the manikin wouldn't misuse his memories because "he was me," and even if it had, they would have stopped him. He thanks the others for trying to reach him even while his heart wasn't there. After dealing with the Planesgorger and escaping the ruins, Bartz speaks to Galuf alone. They discuss the beginning of their original journey, when Bartz had been on his way back to Lix before the meteorite crashed. He expresses his gratitude that he can see Galuf again, alive, and they resolve that they can overcome anything together.
