Bards wander the land with instrument in hand and song on tongue. Their magickal tunes are a source of delight and wonder

Description

Bard is a job class exclusive to the moogle Hurdy in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.

Profile

Bard focuses on granting buffs to fellow allies and healing their HP. It suffers from weak physical stats, low Speed and no Evasion, but average-high magickal stats fitting his main role as a supporter unit. The class is unique due to its Magick Ballade and Requiem abilities; the first restores 10 MP in a small area, making Hurdy an ideal supporter for mages, and the second deals huge damage to undead enemies, as well as removing any undead coffins in a small area.

The Bard comes with the Critical: Vanish reaction as soon as Hurdy joins the party, an ability which cannot normally be learned by moogles. Although the Bard can equip any instrument, Hurdy can only learn new abilities from the four-stringed instruments. A notable class combination for the Bard class in having it secondary to a Moogle Knight, since training as a Moogle Knight gives great physical stats, keeping Hurdy on the field and allowing him to support longer and defend himself. Another one would be mixing the Bard's buffs with a Juggler's debuffs to give fast and versatile support, especially with speed boosting daggers.

Etymology

In medieval Gaelic and British culture, a bard was a professional poet, employed by a patron, such as a monarch or nobleman, to commemorate the patron's ancestors and to praise the patron's own activities. Originally a specific class of poet, with the decline of living bardic tradition in the modern period the term "bard" acquired generic meaning of an epic author/singer/narrator, or any poets, especially famous ones. For example, William Shakespeare is known as the Bard or the Bard of Avon.
