The Bard is an enemy in Final Fantasy IV. Only Tellah fights in this battle, and he cannot be controlled during the fight. The Bard does not attack. Tellah only uses physical attacks while shouting various insults at him and telling him to shut up, including the famous line, "You spoony bard!". The fight draws to a close when Anna, Tellah's daughter, eventually intervenes. The Bard later joins the party as Edward Chris von Muir. Tellah can either use his fists or a staff when attacking Edward, provided the player has not unequipped him.

Etymology

In medieval Gaelic and British culture, a bard was a professional poet, employed by a patron, such as a monarch or nobleman, to commemorate the patron's ancestors and to praise the patron's own activities. Originally a specific class of poet, with the decline of living bardic tradition in the modern period the term "bard" acquired generic meaning of an epic author/singer/narrator, or any poets, especially famous ones. For example, William Shakespeare is known as the Bard or the Bard of Avon.
