Battle[]
First encounter[]
While Barbariccia is in tornado form, she counters all weapon attacks (with the exception of Kain's Jump which forces her out of this form), with strong physical attacks and the Maelstrom spell. During the battle in the Giant of Babil, Barbariccia is permanently locked in tornado form because Kain is not in the party, and thus is immune to all physical attacks, but in this battle she has a weakness to the Holy element.
Strategy[]
When she returns to her regular form, the player should start using Cecil's and Cid's attacks, Yang should use Focus, and Rosa should buff the party. For the battle in the Giant of Babil it would be best to have Rosa (if she has learned it) or Fusoya cast Holy, and Rydia summon Mist Dragon to take her down quickly.
Second encounter[]
AI script[]
Normal pattern:
- Turn 1: Assume tornado form
- Turn 2: Attack
If in tornado form:
- Turn 1: Tornado
- Turn 2: Stone Touch
- Turn 3: Lightning
If tornado form is attacked by the Jump ability: Assume normal form
At all times:
- If attacked by a physical attack: Lightning (30%)
- If attacked by magic: Maelstrom (50%)

Etymology[]
Barbariccia is a demon in the Inferno of Dante's Divine Comedy. He is one of the 12 Malebranche ("Evil Claws") who guard Bolgia Five of the eighth circle of Hell, Malebolge. Vulgar and quarrelsome, their duty is to force the corrupt politicians to stay under the surface of a boiling lake of pitch.
His name means "Curly Beard".
