No matter. Barbariccia's winds shall cut you down!

Barbariccia

Barbariccia is an optional boss in the Dawn of Souls and many succeeding versions of the original Final Fantasy, bar the Android version or Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. The party finds her on the east side of the tenth level of the Hellfire Chasm and must defeat either her or Rubicante to exit the dungeon. Her sprite is similar to that of her incarnation in Final Fantasy IV.

Stats[]

Battle[]

FFI PSP Ray

Ray in the 20th Anniversary version.

Barbariccia has low Defense but high Magic Defense. She alternates between a physical strike that will hit for around 250 damage, a special attack called Ray, which can petrify a single character, but usually misses, and the powerful Cyclone skill. Cyclone can deal over 300 damage to the entire party, and Barbariccia may use it two turns in a row.

Strategy[]

It is recommended for the party to be above level 40 when fighting her. A White Wizard should cast Healaga every turn, just in case. Physical attacks are effective against her, but because of Barbariccia's high Magic Defense a Black Wizard is better off buffing the party's physical attackers with Haste and Temper than casting spells against Barbariccia.

Etymology[]

Barbariccia is a demon in the Inferno of Dante's Divine Comedy. He is one of the 12 Malebranche ("Evil Claws") who guard Bolgia Five of the eighth circle of Hell, Malebolge. Vulgar and quarrelsome, their duty is to force the corrupt politicians to stay under the surface of a boiling lake of pitch.

His name means "Curly Beard".
