Etymology[]
[view · edit · purge]The word "banshee" is derived from the Irish bean sídhe, meaning "woman of the fairy mound." In Irish mythology, a banshee is the spirit of a woman, usually seen as an omen of death or a messenger from the Otherworld. According to legend, a banshee will wail around a house if someone inside is about to die.
