The Bandit

The Bandit Hummvy is a Hi-Mobility Multi-Purposed Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) seen in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

A common land transport for the United States Military Force, the vehicle possesses a single gun turret and seating for 4 (1 driver, 1 shotgun and 2 passengers), with additional space for 1 gunner and remaining room for either 1 additional occupant or cargo.

During the Fall of the New York Barrier City, the Deep Eyes squad manage to acquire a Bandit and use it in their escape from the Phantoms. Attempting to get to the Black Boa; which had been incarcerated in the USMF military hangar, the group had to drive through the monorail station.
The action saw to the destruction of the hummvy, its axel snapping on impact and impaling Ryan Whittaker in the process. While the hummvy’s mobility was destroyed, its gun system was not; with Ryan providing the Black Boa the time to escape by firing at the Meta-Phantom approaching it as his last stand.

Etymology[]

Banditry is the life and practice of bandits. The New English Dictionary on Historical Principles (NED) defined "bandit" in 1885 as "one who is proscribed or outlawed; hence, a lawless desperate marauder, a brigand: usually applied to members of the organized gangs which infest the mountainous districts of Italy, Sicily, Spain, Greece, Iran, and Turkey.

This vehicle shares its designation with the Humvee of the real-world United States Armed Forces, an all-terrain multipurpose utility vehicle manufactured by AM General. In the 2000s, a civilian version was created by General Motors under the Hummer marque, but was dissolved with the 2010 model year.

Trivia[]

  • In the original version of the script it was Jane Proudfoot that got impaled by the Bandit’s axel in the crash. In another version it was Sid; the pole impaling his head.
