Azulmagia (also known as Apocalypse in the RPGe translation) is a boss and one of the Demons of the Rift in Final Fantasy V. Locked up in the Dimension Castle dungeons, he will attack the party if they say they are heroes.
Azulmagia has 17 of the 30 Blue Magic spells in the game and casting certain Blue Magic spells on him will cause him to learn them and start using them on the party, giving him a total of 28 of the 30 Blue Magic spells he can actively use (he will not use Transfusion and Moon Flute). These 28 spells can be learned by any Blue Mage in the party, if they have not learned them already. Specifically, Azulmagia can learn:
For defeating him, the party unlocks a save point within the castle.
If the player uses Self Destruct on this boss, he will use the same skill, making him possibly one of the easiest bosses in the game. However, if the player does not have access to Blue Magic while fighting him, or has not learned Self Destruct, the battle may prove to be a little more difficult.
Many of Azulmagia's spells are reflectable, so summoning Carbuncle can greatly aid the player. In addition, Azulmagia's high tendency to cast spells that he just learned can be used against him; teaching him Level 3 Flare will cause him to use it to no effect if the party is not vulnerable to the spell (or bounce off the party for high damage to himself if Reflect is used). Alternatively, teaching him Magic Hammer will cause him to likely spend several turns trying to do MP damage instead of hurting the party. If neither are an option, it is best to kill him quickly; Bio spell blade can do very high damage to him, and the spell itself can also do decent damage. Otherwise, it is best to rely on physical attacks as Azulmagia's magic defense is much higher than his defense.
Other appearances Edit
Azulmagia means "blue magic" in Spanish and Portugese. The correct translation of "blue magic" to Spanish and Portuguese would be magia azul.
It has been known as Apocalypse in the RPGe version. Apocalypse (Ancient Greek: ἀποκάλυψις apokálypsis, from ἀπό and καλύπτω meaning "uncovering"), translated literally from Greek, is a disclosure of knowledge, i.e., a lifting of the veil or revelation. In religious contexts it is usually a disclosure of something hidden. Today, it is commonly used in reference to any prophetic revelation or so-called end time scenario, or to the end of the world in general.
