Allows an ally to automatically use spells with the linked materia when not actively controlled during battle.
Description
Auto-Cast materia is a Support Materia in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It can be linked with a
Magic Materia to cause the user to automatically cast the first-tier spell of the materia when not controlled. This means the party member will consume ATB and MP to use the ability independently.
Though Synergy Materia also exists, it has a different role in that it is used strictly for attacking and as a follow-up for player attacks. As such, Auto-Cast has a similar function to
Auto-Unique Ability Materia and
Auto-Weapon Ability Materia.
Obtained[]

Auto-cast found in ch.1.
An auto-cast materia is found on top of some containers outside the Northern Ridge on Mt. Nibel in chapter 1, "Fall of a Hero". However, nothing carries over from the prologue.
Auto-cast is bought from Chadley's Materia Development for 10 Grasslands Region data points.

Use[]
Auto-Cast materia allows a party member to cast spells from the linked materia independently of player control. This frees up the player from needing to control them or issue them commands, and thus serves primarily for player convenience.
The most common use of the materia is pairing it with Healing Materia. This means that a party member with the paired materia will be on Cure duty, restoring party members' HP when needed. If a party member strictly serves this role for the player, this can be an ideal use to allow them to focus on the roles of other party members.
A player can also pair the materia with an offensive materia to cause that party member to primarily focus on spellcasting against opponents. More often than not however, in these cases, synergy materia is a better choice, serving a similar offensive function yet not consuming ATB or MP.
The AI attempts to use the linked spells intelligently, i.e. mainly use elemental spells against enemies that have a weakness and have been assessed, and prioritizing the leader character for heals and buffs, and not using all their MP on a whim, however, the results can still be lacking or feel random. Likely because auto-cast consumes a resource, the AI seems to use it far less than the comparable auto-weapon ability and auto-unique ability materia.
Later in the game, when materia slots become scarce, it is better to avoid using the materia and rely on player inputs.
