Casts Auto-Life and Regen on one party member.

Description

Aura is a Flair/Elan in Final Fantasy IX used by Amarant, which bestows Regen and Auto-Life to one (Flair) or all (Elan) allies for a cost of 12 MP.

Obtained[]

Aura is learned for 25 AP from Scissor Fangs and Duel Claws. Scissor Fangs are bought from Esto Gaza for 8000 gil after the events in Desert Palace for a limited time; after entering the Shimmering Island portal, they can no longer be bought. Duel Claws are synthesized in Black Mage Village in the endgame for 16000 gil, Dragon's Claws and Tiger Fangs, and stolen from Deathguise.

Mechanics[]

Aura bestows Regen and Auto-Life to a target or to all allies when Amarant is in Trance. Regen automatically replenishes the target's HP by 1/16th of their maximum at intervals depending on their Spirit and Haste/Normal/Slow status, as well as the Battle Speed set in the config. Auto-Life automatically revives the target at 1 HP should they fall, even if they are Zombified. It cannot be used onto a character who is already KO'd.

Use[]

Aura is excellent for its ability to cast Auto-Life. Regen is also beneficial, but better applied with Auto-Regen or Reis's Wind. Auto-Life, meanwhile, is great in any tough battle, such as against Ozma, Hades, Yans, or the final bosses. It is especially good to bring Amarant close to Trance in the battle against Ozma and then use Aura with his Elan at the first opportunity to bestow the status to the entire party in one go.

Another use could be on Zidane to ready him for Sacrifice.

Aura is not considered magic and thus pierces Reflect and works in Oeilvert (though Amarant cannot have it yet in a normal playthrough when the player is sent to Oeilvert as part of the story, and there is never any reason to return). Auto-Life is the only way to revive Zombified allies, but it needs to be used before the Zombified character is KO'd.

Etymology[]

In parapsychology and many forms of spiritual practice, an aura is a field of subtle, luminous radiation surrounding a person or object (like a halo or aureola in religious art). The depiction of such an aura often connotes a person of particular power or holiness.
