Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry
The Aspidochelon, also known as the Opinicus, is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI. It can be found at the Ebot's Rock and, while weak for this point of the game, it will attack with Rage and then two normal attacks on its fifth turn. It can also counter magic with Wind Slash. A few normal attacks should be enough to kill it before it gets to the fifth turn.
Stats[]
Coliseum setup[]
Paladin Shield and Minerva Bustier will work wonders against Aspidochelon's elemental abilities; alternatively, Gaia Gear and Angel Wings are good against Landslide, and Ice Shield/Flame Shield/Snow Scarf help against Avalanche. Umaro is a good choice when equipped with the Master's Scroll and Angel Wings.

The sprite that is shared between Aspidochelon and Devoahan was used and modified for some of the Salmando-class dragons in Bahamut's Lagoon. Namely, the White Warrior and Poison Warrior, the Earth Slayer, Green Slayer, Pontilac, Giygas, General, and Iron Eagle are all heavy modifications of the original.

Etymology[]
aspidochelone is a fabled sea creature, variously described as a large whale or vast sea turtle, and a giant sea monster with huge spines on the ridge of its back.
According to the tradition of the Physiologus and medieval bestiaries, theOpinicus is a heraldic beast that differs from the griffin principally in that all four of its legs are those of a lion. It is typically shown with the short tail of a camel and sometimes with a longer neck like a camel's (but still feathered). An heraldic opinicus is shown as a male creature, whereas the winged griffin is female.
