Arubboth, known initially as the Unknown Palace (謎の宮殿, Nazono Kyūden?), is the Light Emperor's castle in the Soul of Rebirth sidequest in Final Fantasy II. Its floors are mirrored images of Pandaemonium's floors.

Story[edit | edit source]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

When Minwu's party first enters the Unknown Palace, they think it is Pandaemonium, but exploring the castle proves otherwise. The party reaches the top and finds the Light Emperor, who reveals they are in Arubboth, the palace of Heaven. He asks for the party's forgiveness, offering them eternal life.

The party's loved ones appear in spirit to explain that the Light Emperor is evil, that Firion's party are fighting to stop the Dark Emperor in Hell, and they should too. The party attacks the Light Emperor and defeat him. With both halves of the Emperor's soul destroyed, the Emperor's entire being is vanquished. What happens to the four heroes that braved the Soul of Rebirth remains unknown.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The name Arubboth refers to a Canannite town that was mentioned in the Book of Kings. It could also be a variation of "Araboth", the seventh and final level of heaven mentioned in the Talmud, where it is the location of the throne of the lord and the home of the seraphim and ophanim.
