Arnegis Elder is non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is a member of Lemures.

History[]

Early life[]

As a young man, Arnegis and his wife were proud and ignorant patriots. After the Garleans reconquered Locus Amoenus, Arnegis was honored with a post there. Their pride vanished when they saw that their defeated enemies were condemned to a life of servitude. Faced with reality, Arnegis began to cooperate with the resistance, but was discovered by the Frumentarium, and before long he was deposed as a sympathizer. Arnegis and his wife fled to Eorzea via Radz-at-Han.[1]

When they arrived at the docks of Limsa Lominsa, they were accused of being imperial spies by the Yellowjackets. They managed to escape and kept on running until they met Drusilla, who welcomed them to the Lemures. To hide his origins, Arnegis abandoned his Garlean name and adopted his current Highlander name. Arnegis never forgot his debt to Drusilla and swore loyalty to her. Arnegis started obtaining information to assist Drusilla in her revenge against the Voidsent Orcus, who had killed her entire family.[1] Arnegis performed various jobs as a merchant selling ceruleum at a low price to rival Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern.[2]

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker[]

After Drusilla begins training the Warrior of Light as a Reaper to help her kill Orcus, she takes the Warrior of Light on his first mission. Arnegis explains that the area through which he transports goods has been plagued by a chimera, one too fierce for him and his team to drive alone. After the mission is complete, Drusilla decides that the Warrior of Light is ready to face Orcus.[2]

Arnegis and Hermin, share Orcus' clues, the most likely being about a missing woodcutter in the Central Shroud, and a man with pale skin and burning eyes seen nearby that matches Orcus' description. However, the clues led to a different voidsent.[3]

Arnegis continued his investigations but was eventually murdered by Orcus. His body was found in Thanalan by the Brass Blades. When the news reaches the Lemures, Drusilla leaves for Erralig's Burial Chamber to verify the body. After confirming that it was indeed Arnegis, Drusilla says that the Lemures will pay all the costs for his proper burial and leaves to break the news to Arnegis' wife.[1]

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Arnegis is a Garlean man with blond hair and a thin beard with some scruff. He is a well-dressed man with light brown eyes who wears an Aesthete's Hat of Gathering, a tan colored Gemfiends Vest, Calfskin Rider's Bottoms, and Quaintrelle's Dress Shoes. According to Drusilla he can pass as a highlander in the right light.

Personality[]

Arnegis works in the ceruleum trade to make a living and respects Drusilla enough to trust in her word and gather information on her target. He is very resourceful when gathering information, he investigates and questions those closest to a mysterious disappearance and reports back to Drusilla. When he has a lead, he works tirelessly to gather information. When Hermin questions Drusilla's choice of hiring an outsider and questions the strength of the voidsent they are hunting, he berates her for saying it in front of the Warrior of Light, letting her know that it was disrespectful.

When he was younger, he was seen as a patriot who wanted to return to his ancestral homeland, but after witnessing how his countrymen treated their defeated foes, he couldn't stand the sight of their suffering and cooperated with the resistance.
