Revive and fully restore the HP of one KO'd ally.

Description

Arise is a White Magicks spell in Final Fantasy XII, both in the original PlayStation 2 version and the Zodiac re-releases. It is the best revival spell, surpassing Raise, used to restore allies from K.O. to full health, or for instantly killing undead enemies.

Obtained[]

Arise's license costs 90 License Points in the Zodiac versions, and 50 LP in the original version. In all versions, the spell is bought in Balfonheim Port after the party has the Treaty-Blade. It costs 8,000 gil in the Zodiac versions and 9,700 gil in the original version.

In the Zodiac versions, Arise can be used by White Mage, as well as by Monk with Famfrit. Reddas also has it in the Zodiac versions.

Mechanics[]

Arise restores a KO'd ally to full health. If targeted at undead enemies, the spell will instantly defeat them with a 35% base accuracy rate, which is lower than the 70% rate for Raise. If the undead target has the Safety augment, Arise will not work on them. Failed attempts simply do no damage to the undead target, but the Faith status increases the chance of it working. Conversely, an enemy's Shell status will lower the chance of instant death working.

Arise's base cost is 52 MP in the Zodiac versions, and 50 MP in the original PlayStation 2 versions, which are brought down with Channeling licenses. Arise is affected by Reflect.

Casting Arise can generate a large amount of Enmity toward surrounding enemies, endangering the magick user after reviving an ally, though a tank character can use this to their advantage.

Use[]

Arise is a useful revival spell the player can easily set up via the gambit system (Ally:Any→Arise is good). However, Raise, which restores a KO'd ally to 40% of their health (or more when used under Faith), is likely sufficient most of the time and can be preferable with the lower MP cost and Effect Capacity. With all Phoenix Lores and the Pheasant Netsuke accessory, using a Phoenix Down also revives an ally to full health, and is much faster than Arise.

As Arise revives characters by an HP percentage, it does not matter what the caster's Magick stat is, and so can be equally powerful on characters who are not built as magick users, like Reddas. It is also more beneficial when used on party members with Bubble Belts equipped.

Arise is the inferior method of inflicting instant death on the undead, below Raise, and so is best not used for this purpose. When fighting the Behemoth King, casting Arise on it twice will cause it to switch its palings.
