Oh, shut up and help me remodel the Aranea Highwind (Opera Omnia) page!
Commodore of Niflheim airborn division who pilots a red assault craft. Her subordinates, whom she takes good care of, trust in her implicity. Her speed and skill in the air with a magitek lance has deservedly earned her the moniker "the Dragoon."
Description
Aranea is a playable character in representating Final Fantasy XV in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia. She can be recruited during the Lost Chapter Commodore of the Skies.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Her default attire is what she wears in the Final Fantasy XV main game: a suit of red and black leather armor that has a "scaly" appearance, a long white cape with a red symbol and red-brown boots with unique high heels. In battles, Aranea dons a black helmet with horn structures.
Her alternate costume is her "Women's Snowsuit" from Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto: leather trousers, a long fur-lined black coat, and a muted red scarf with matching fingerless gloves. She has no headwear with her snowsuit and wears long heeled boots.
Personality[]
Story[]
Lost Chapter: Commodore of the Skies[]
The god Spiritus summoned Aranea to sustain the world of the gods through combat. Though she questions his motives, he gives her a single directive, which is to be free to do as she wishes so long as she fights. Aranea is unfazed, but Gilgamesh, taking interest in her magitek lance, duels with her and opens a torsion for her.
Having been dropped into Mog's entourage, Aranea seizes upon Noctis and spars with him as the rest watch her aerial acrobatics in awe. Noctis is bewildered and wonders if Aranea remembers what happened back home on Eos. Machina speculates that Aranea might be under another's mind control. However, Aranea halts the duel, explaining that Spiritus demanded that she fight as the only condition for being in the world of respite; she had, in fact, been very happy to see the Crown Prince. Noctis vouches for Aranea's reliability. When Tifa and Machina question about so readily accepting being thrown into a new world, Aranea explains that there is little she can do about her situation so she might as well embrace it. She then joins the warriors.
Later, Prompto introduces Aranea to the Onion Knight and explains that they came together as allies despite the looming war between his country and hers. Prompto offers to be Aranea's guide and she commends him for growing since he joined Noctis in the world of respite. As Lightning, Ashe, and Galuf struggle to hold off a magitek armor unit, the three rush to challenge the enemy, but are beaten back until Aranea offers to draw its attention to make it vulnerable to attack. Prompto lands a finishing blow and the magitek armor is destroyed.
The warriors express their gratitude but Aranea brushes it off, stating that she just happened to be better-equipped to handle that particular enemy. Prompto had hoped to return the favor by saving Aranea for once, but she chides him for his reaction and tells him that they take care of each other; he may have the opportunity to protect her soon enough. She leads the group back so everyone can get some rest.
Intersecting Wills: Ambition[]
Aranea is sent on a secret mission from Shantotto to gather materials for the latter's numerous experiments. Three of the younger women—Porom, Maria, and Reynn—decide to tag along, as they look up to her for her calm demeanor and laser focus. At first, Aranea attempts to push her admirers back as she seeks out her first objective and quickly locates it; but shortly after acquiesces to their curiosity. However, they still do not understand what makes Aranea worth the trouble of looking up to and possibly emulating, so they eventually turn to Beatrix and Fran for possible clues.
The group sans Aranea has ventured out again for one of Shantotto's requests, but has somehow failed to complete it, leading them to beg the Professor for another run at it. At first, she flatly refuses, stating that they are not mature enough for the task. Aranea volunteers to go with them, giving the group another chance to study her behavior.
After fighting a series of battles, the group once again acquires their target: a snake fiend with valuable meat. Aranea finishes it off, reminiscing about how Noctis and his crew would hunt for similar items in their world. She prepares to take a large chunk of snake meat back to camp, where the rest of the gang is waiting.
Aranea does not seem to mind her new fan club in the least. In fact, they reminded her of her own younger days, when she would turn to her companions for support.
Gameplay[]
Aranea is a ranged damage attacker who specializes in re-breaking and delaying enemies. Her gameplay revolves around maintaing her Overclock buff, which not only increases her ATK and HP damage, but also upgrades her abilities to the "+" versions.
Her first skill, Dragoon Dive, delays enemies by one turn (two if Overclock is active), while her second skill, Highwind, re-breaks enemies and applies her Vitalcrusher debuff, which makes enemies take increased HP damage taken and makes all BRV damage taken to be critical hits. If Aranea is currently without her Overclock buff, Dragoon Dive and Highwind will be free abilities, and either will grant her Overclock for 4 turns.
Aranea's EX, Air Superiority, gives her a free ability use on her next turn while also granting her the High-Speed Maneuver buff, which increases her critical damage and gives her free instant turns upon breaking enemies. Her LD attack, Vermillion Assault, also gives her a free ability use on her next turn and also provides the Magitek Lance special effect, which causes all her attacks to re-break enemies.
Her BT attack, Outstanding, grants Aranea the ability to launch opponents with any of her attacks, and at the end of any launch sequence initiated by her, Aranea will unleash an extra powerful attack (similarly to Cid Raines). Her FR attack, Speerstoßwelle, features Fang, and its Force Time condition requires to delay or break enemies and also to deal critical hits; in addition Aranea's Force Time effect makes all her break attacks delay enemies for an additional turn.

Allusions[]
- Aranea's abilities allude to her techniques in Final Fantasy XV. Aranea uses the Highwind technique in outdoor battles and Dragoon Dive in indoor battles (as seen in Episode Prompto). Highwind, the English-localized term for "Air Superiority", is her EX attack in Opera Omnia.
- Aranea is partnered with Fang as well as partner to Kain when using Force mode:
- All three are based in the Dragoon job role and a leader of their own respective groups.
- Kain and Aranea are both of a Highwind family, are famous for their aerial moves, and were manipulated at least once by greater antagonists before teaming up with the protagonists for good.
- Aranea and Fang are female with independent and straightforward personality who have ambiguous allegiance at first.
Behind the scenes[]
- Aranea was the second character to debut first in the Global version, after Beatrix. Aranea was announced during the Global version's 2nd anniversary community stream on Twitch.
- Aranea's spears, as well as her FR ability, all use German nomenclature:
- Eisenspeer (/EYE-zen-shpeer/) translates as "Iron Spear".
- Stoss is anglicized from Stoß (/SHTOHSS/), meaning "shock", "push", or "thrust".
- Begrabenspeer (/be-GRAH-ben-shpeer/) translates as "bury[ing] spear".
- Bohrenspeer (/BOH-ren-shpeer/) translates as "Drill Spear".
- Sternenlicht (/SHTAIRN-en-likt/) translates as "Starlight".
- Eisdrache (/EYES-dra-he/) translates as "Ice Dragon".
- Speerstoßwelle (/SHPEER-shtohss-vell-uh/) translates as "Spear Shockwave".
