The Arachne (アルケニー, Arukenī?), also known as Arachne Eve, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy Legend II. It is typically a giant spider, with the torso of a human woman.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy IV[]
The Arachne appears as an enemy encountered in the Passage of the Eidolons. It attacks with nothing but Earthquake, making it exceptionally dangerous to the party if they do not have Float. Otherwise, it is easy to defeat and of no threat. It can drop the rare Siren item upon defeat. In the Japan-exclusive Easy Type release, it is instead called the Tarantula (タランチュラ, Taranchura?).
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]
The Arachne returns as an enemy encountered in the Challenge Dungeons for Kain and the Lunarians. It fights exactly as before, but will now counter magic attacks with its own physical attack.
Final Fantasy XI[]
The Arachne (あらくね, Arakune?) appears as a notorious monster member of the spider family. It spawns in the Kuftal Tunnel and is the only source of the Arachne Web item.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Arachne Eve appears as the first boss of
The Weeping City of Mhach. It fights the alliance with an assortment of banemite and spider minions, and weaves a massive web that must be torn down.
Final Fantasy XV[]
The Arachne appears as a daemon encountered in caves of Leide, Cleigne and as a boss during the main quest The Power of Kings. It is a relatively low level enemy, which employs Lightning-elemental attacks and can summon Tarantulas.
Final Fantasy XVI[]
The Arachne appears as an enemy encountered in the Auldhyl and Sorrowise regions of Rosaria the Clairview region of Sandbreque, and the Kingsfall.
Final Fantasy Legend II[]
The Arachne (アラクニ, Arakuni?) appears as a possible transformation for monster units.
Final Fantasy Dimensions[]
The Arachne appears as an enemy encountered in the Challenge Dungeon for the Dragoon, and fights utilizing Earthquake and Web. It appeared exclusively in the original mobile phone release, and is dummied in future releases.

Etymology[]
Arachne is the name of a mythological Greek weaver who boasted she had skills surpassing that of Athena, the goddess of weaving. For this hubris, Athena transformed her and her descendants into spiders.
