Uses bubbles to surround and damage all enemies.

Description

Aqua Breath, also known as Aqua Rake, is a Blue Magic spell in Final Fantasy V. Despite its name and appearance, the spell deals moderate non-elemental damage to all enemies, and eight times normal damage to desert monsters. The spell has a hefty MP cost, but can easily wipe out many enemy parties, and even some bosses, in one hit.

Aqua Breath can also be used by catching and releasing a Dhorme Chimera, Moogle Eater, Rajiformes, or Aquagel.

Obtained[]

The earliest Aqua Breath can be obtained is from Dhorme Chimera, in a desert north of the Library of the Ancients. Though Dhorme Chimera is a challenging enemy around this time, Aqua Breath is a strong enough spell that the battle is worthwhile.

Aqua Breath can later be obtained from Chimera Brain, Leviathan, Bahamut, Crystal (#279), Neo Exdeath (Middle), Enuo, Famed Mimic Gogo, and Aquagel. Aquagel will not use the ability normally, meaning Control is needed.

Mechanics[]

When used normally, Aqua Breath's damage is calculated as follows:

When used against desert monsters, eight times damage increase, it uses the following formula:

Use[]

Aqua Breath deals immense non-elemental damage, and its only drawback (aside from some enemies resisting magic) is its prohibitive MP cost. This means the ability should not be used commonly, but when it is used, can wipe out an enemy party. As such, it is a good way to use a Blue Mage to pull the party out of a dangerous situation, but should not be relied on for normal use.

Aqua Breath is powerful enough to kill Sandworm in a single hit, and Landcrawler in three.

Using Aqua Breath on Azulmagia teaches him the spell and he will begin to use it against the party.
