Causes Trouble to the target.

Description

Annoy is a Skill in Final Fantasy IX used by Zidane to attempt inflict an enemy with Trouble for a cost of 4 MP.

Obtained[]

Annoy can be learned for 50 AP from Gladius and Sargatanas. Gladius can first be stolen from Lani, and soon after that be purchased from the Black Mage Village. Sargatanas is first available for synthesis in Daguerreo.

Mechanics[]

Annoy attempts to inflict the targeted enemy with the Trouble status, meaning that whenever the troubled enemy is damaged, half of the damage is also distributed among the other members in the enemy party.

When Zidane has Annoy available, he can also use Stellar Circle 5 while in Trance.

The chance to inflict Trouble to a target with Annoy is calculated as follows:

Afterward, two randomly generated values determine if Annoy will hit:

A random number 0...99 >= Chance, the spell misses its mark
A random number 0...99 < Target Magic Evade, the target evades

Accuracy is halved by the target's Shell or Zidane being under Mini.

Use[]

Annoy is not a particularly useful skill apart from that having it lets Zidane use Stellar Circle 5 while in Trance. Enemies rarely appear in large groups, and the only tough group is with Yans, where inflicting them with other status abnormalities is much more beneficial. Even if the player did want to inflict Trouble onto an enemy, Zidane's Soul Blade with Exploda would be far superior, as it does not miss unless the enemy is immune. The enemy groups with four enemies are against Cactuars, Feather Circles, and Hornets in the endgame. The usual best strategy against groups would be Vivi's group-cast magic or summons.

One use of Annoy could be against a three-member group of Yans, and then attacking the troubled Yan boosted by MP Attack. The Yan will die in 2–3 hits, and the others will lose half of their health without countering, allowing them to be killed in one shot with a strong attack without fear of counterattack.

Notes[]

  1. (めいわくをかける, Meiwaku o Kakeru?) means to "cause trouble for" or "annoy" an individual.
