I was in despair. But then I had you, and you got me back on my feet. Thank you, Evan.
Annette Townshend
Annette Townshend is the mother of Evan Townshend. She debuted in Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story.
History[]
Annette was originally President Shinra's secretary. During this time, she conceived his illegitimate son Evan Townshend. She disliked the president and quit, working at cafes and bars to support herself and Evan. When Evan was five years old, he required major heart surgery. The surgeon Eugene Dimitri learned that Evan was President Shinra's son and falsely claimed that Evan would eventually require an expensive surgery to fix a brain hematoma. When Evan when 17, Annette took a well-paying job at Shinra to pay for the surgery. This time, Annette was hired as a caretaker for the Nibelheim resettlement project.
Annette and Nick Foley, the manager of the project, informed Evan that they would be relocating Nibelheim but did not dispense further information on the project. Evan angrily left their Midgar home and was unable to return in the commotion of the Sector 7 plate collapse. Annette left a note for Evan and went with Nick to Nibelheim. Evan was not able to reconnect with her and remained in Midgar.
Many Nibelheim residents eventually began migrating north. Annette followed them to Icicle Inn. She briefly left for Midgar, but then returned to Icicle Inn to adhere to her caretaking duties. Annette located the deceased residents beneath the ice fields. She wrote letters to Nick identifying some of the bodies and asking him to bring money to Evan for his surgery. She also wrote a letter to Evan, expressing her love for him, revealing his father's identity, and directing him to Eugene for surgery. Annette asked him to thank Vincent Valentine, Cid Highwind, and Barret Wallace for their help during her journey as well.
Evan later investigated her disappearance. He found her body, along with the letters and decedents, in the ice field tunnels. Annette also had a shriveled, mummified arm belonging to Jenova wrapped in a handkerchief with her.
