Anklet adorned with a four-leaf clover that raises spirit.

Description

The Anklet is an add-on in Final Fantasy IX for Dagger, Freya, Eiko, and Amarant. It teaches Counter, which allows Freya and Amarant to automatically retaliate when being hit by an enemy; Healer that transforms the character's Attack into a healing ability; and Locomotion, which immunizes against Stop. The Anklet gives a bonus to the wearer's Magic and Spirit when they level up with it equipped and is excellent for level grinding mages. It is made via synthesis and is also itself used for making other add-ons.

Obtain[]

Anklet synthesis from FFIX Remastered

The Anklet is an exceedingly rare treasure in Chocobo Hot and Cold; the player may complete the entire sidequest across multiple playthroughs of the game and never come across it. It is synthesized after the party returns from the Outer Continent in Alexandria, Treno, and Lindblum, as well as in Daguerreo, for 4,000 gil, a Gold Choker, and a Peridot. Peridots become fairly common after meeting Ramuh, and the Gold Choker is synthesized in Treno and Lindblum.

The Anklet is also available in the Treno Auction House after the party returns from the Outer Continent, but is only sold if the player has none in their inventory; the player is expected to spend around 17,000 gil to get it there.

One is also found in Desert Palace's fire chamber FFIX Desert Palace Fire Chamber. The party must light the first three fire bowls on the left side, and then proceed through the door to the other side of the room, where they can light the bowl on the left to make the statues on the left disappear. Going back around and lighting the two bowls in the middle, makes the right statues disappear also. All other bowls on the right must be lit before the last center bowl can be. When all bowls are lit, a bloodstone will appear. Examining it receives an Anklet.

Mechanics[]

The Anklet provides 5 to physical Evasion. It gives a +3 bonus to the wearer's Magic and a +1 bonus to the wearer's Spirit when they level up with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Magic is used for spells' damage calculations and for determining MP growth. Spirit is a generally good stat that that determines the HP a character is revived at, the duration of expirable status effects, how often Regen and Poison tick, how frequently the character enters Trance and how many turns they get while in Trance, among other things. The Anklet has the best Magic bonus in the game alongside the Ribbon.

Use[]

The Anklet is a good add-on. Amarant can master Counter faster with it, as his weapons already have it, and Healer can be good for him for Oeilvert. Locomotion is good to have mastered for everyone before the final battle as well.

Though the flavor text mentions that the Anklet boosts Spirit, it actually has a much better bonus to the wearer's Magic at +3, making it especially good for Dagger and Eiko. However, level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary even when preparing for superbosses. As the best stat-boosting equipment become available at the end of the game, the best result would be to restrict EXP intake until then.

The Anklet is needed in synthesis for two good add-ons: the Rebirth Ring and the Reflect Ring.

Beatrix can also wear the add-on, but the player should not equip it to her if they were lucky to get it early from Chocobo Hot and Cold as she is a guest character.
