Anden, born Gilltet, is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV.

History[]

Before Final Fantasy XIV[]

Gilltet was born in the Viis settlement of Fanow in the Rak'tika Greatwood, and was raised alongside his sister Tellina. Prior to the Flood of Light, Gilltet left the village for the Kingdom of Voeburt and took the name Anden, where he would remain as a shepherd. Anden regularly made offerings of sheep's milk and sweets to the pixies as a force of habit from attending to woodland spirits in the Greatwood despite being dismissed as faerie tales; unknown to him, the pixies were real and greatly appreciated his offerings. At one point, he hosted Ardbert and his friends as guests during their stay in the kingdom. Anden would remain in Voeburt until the Flood of Light struck the First, where he would be infected with light aether and slowly transform into a sin eater. Unwilling to lose the man who regularly made offerings to them, one of the pixies, Eo Tyr, stopped Anden from fully transforming by turning him into a leafman. He would remain in the desolate kingdom which would later be known as Il Mheg, remaining immobile for a century and unable to interact with the world around him.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker[]

Following the Warrior of Light's victory over the Endsinger and the aversion of the Final Days, they returned to the Crystarium to find a sheep bearing a message addressed to them, saying that one of their leafmen started talking and they must come to Il Mheg to investigate. They met with Anden, who was struggling to remember his past life and return to his original form. The Warrior summoned Feo Ul through their pact for assistance, who informed them that while a leafman returning to their original form has not happened yet, it was possible with transformative magicks if they remembered enough of their past life.

The Warrior worked with Anden to help jog his memory with trinkets to remind him of his past life, with the leafman initially taking on multiple races' bodies during his struggle to remember his past. He eventually remembered about hosting Ardbert and his friends as guests, allowing Feo Ul to return him to his original form. Anden continued to recall more of his past, including his birthplace and the reasons for leaving the Greatwood, and decided to return home. Eo Tyr begged him to stay while also revealing the reason for turning him into a leafman. Before setting out with the Warrior to Fanow, Feo Ul told Anden that despite not being bound to Il Mheg anymore, he would always be welcome.

Anden and the Warrior approached Fanow, where they were stopped by a sentry, who recognized Anden as her brother Gilltet; in turn, Anden recognized her as Tellina. Both siblings caught up with each other, with Tellina revealing that not much of their village remained following the Flood. Anden decided to return to Il Mheg, having felt a great debt to Eo Tyr for saving him from becoming a sin eater, while Tellina told her brother that he would be welcome back to their village.
