Bestiary Entry
Page 1: Observations
Being the mutated form of alraune, its horns having acquired strength akin to that of metal through ceaselessly struggling for dominance within the pack. The combat awakened those who survived, and as one they departed. In a secret place they now foregather, locked in combat through day and night, to determine the strongest alraune in the world.
Page 2: A Curious Treasure
The sharp and deadly weapon of the alraune king is indeed but a coiled up vine. They may whirl it around at will, skewering anything which strays too close. The report of one such vine penetrating wyrmscale is no idle rumor. Indeed, the gyrating power of the gimble stalk is greatly to be feared, and if its strength could but be applied to weapons of war, oh, the victories one might claim...
Battle
To spawn the Alraune King in the Feywood, the player must clear out all enemies in Ice Field of Clearsight, zone to Redolent Glade area and return to the Ice Field of Clearsight. The Alraune King will spawn with the other four Mandragora-type enemies. To spawn it again after it has been killed the player must return to Redolent Glade and back to Ice Field of Clearsight without leaving the Feywood. All five of the Mandragora-type enemies will have reappeared.
The mandragoras will run away constantly: In Sochen Cave Palace they run to the corners of the area, and in Feywood will run to different Shrines of the Lost. The player must be more careful in Feywood and pursue them faster, as Alraune King is one of the few enemies in the game that can reach a level of up to 99. At this level, all physical attacks will be nullified (excluding guns), and only magick attacks can hurt it. They change level when they spend too much time away from the party, when they use the technick Mystery Waltz. One can see from afar a blue aura surrounding the enemies, and it increases about ten levels whenever they use it.

Etymology
Alraune is the German word for mandrake and is also the title of a German novel published in 1911 about the daughter, named Alraune, of a prostitute that has an overactive sex drive and no concept of love. This is based on legends which state that witches who make love to the mandrake root produce offspring that have no soul or feelings of love.
Trivia
- The coloration of the Alraune King was used in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the coloration of enemy Alraunes.
