Oh, shut up and help me remodel the Alexander (VII Rebirth boss) page!
A sacred summon recreated in virtual reality. This mechanical giant is the manifestation of humanity’s judgment, bestowing either salvation or condemnation upon those who survive its trial.
Enemy Intel
Alexander is an optional boss in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Defeating it is required to obtain the Alexander summon materia. Alexander is available at Chadley's virtual combat arena at Mt. Corel area, in chapter 7; the first the player can take on the challenge is when arriving in Costa del Sol. Like with the other summon materia challenges, the player can unlock easier versions of the boss by finding divine intel on the field.
Stats[]
Battle[]
Alexander is weak to lightning damage. It is a colossal stationary robot that can teleport around the battlefield to change position. Its attacks include shooting beams of light across the floor, and creating damage floor areas that harm those who stand on them. Its arms are separately targetable and need to be destroyed to be able to target and damage the main body, and the arms will regenerate after a time, and the player will need to destroy them again. When Alexander places light pillars on the battlefield, they become separate targets that the player should destroy; any light pillars that the player fails to destroy in time, places Karma debuffs onto the party members, which makes them take more damage from Alexander's Divine Judgment. Destroying both arms pressures the body and makes Alexander vulnerable to being staggered. Alexander's Divine Judgment can be postponed by staggering it during its charge-up phase, but not canceled, as after Alexander recovers, it will still go straight to using Divine Judgment again, a cinematic attack during whose animation the player is unable to act.
Strategy[]
Linking Elemental with Lightning or Lightning and Wind Materia in a character's weapon, such as Cloud, may be a good idea to do increased damage with every hit. If the player has a Cleansing Materia with Esuna, it may be worth bringing to the battle to ease Karma loadout on party members, though this can quickly deplete the caster's MP. The player can bring Aerith and use Soul Drain, especially when Alexander staggers, to replenish supply.
If the player brought Cloud, they can use the dodge + hold attack input to fight airborne. Cloud can stay airborne indefinitely by continuously attacking and using Triple Slash, avoiding the damage fields that appear around Alexander. Dodging while airborne is also possible when not amid an attack. When the floor below is not currently in damaging state, the player can use aerial Braver to do especially great damage to an arm, or the main body. It is worth saving up Limit Breaks and damaging synergy attacks for when Alexander staggers and then go all out. When Alexander is near to being staggered, the player can also cast Bravery to increase damage potential.
Barret may be another good party member to bring for his long range capabilities, and high vitality and HP. His Iron Defense synergy abilities also negate damage from some attacks. Yuffie's lightning ninjutsu and ranged capabilities are also good in this battle.
Etymology[]
"Alexander" is a common western name of Greek origin, the original name being Ἀλέξανδρος (Alexandros), "Protector of Mankind". Alexander III, better known as Alexander the Great, was a famous Macedonian king and military conqueror.
