Akira, stylized as AKILA in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania, is a karaoke singer in Final Fantasy VII Remake who can be encountered at the Drunkard's Den, a bar in Wall Market.[1] He sings "The Midgar Blues", an enka song in the Japanese version of the game and a country song in the international version. If Cloud speaks to Akira, he is given a disc of the track. Akira tells him that, despite being signed to a record label (Shinra Records), he has not had a hit song in his seven years of performing.
As Cloud and Aerith progress through the Corneo Colosseum, posters and flowers are left outside their waiting room. Akira leaves a large sign that congratulates Cloud, signing off as a representative of Cloud's fan club.
In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Akira has made his way to Kalm, where he can be met performing a three-song set, including "Golden Sparks", dedicated to a woman he is no longer with, and "Gotta Walk On". Akira's father can be spotted there as well, supporting his son's music career. After he performs the three songs, he repeats the set.
Characteristics[]
Akira has black hair that is parted to the left. While performing karaoke, he wears a light-colored v-neck dress shirt with beige patterning, white pants, and a brown belt. On the album cover for "The Midgar Blues", his outfit is the same but with a purple color palette: his pants are a light purple and his shirt lilac. He maintains the brown belt and wears a magenta scarf.
Behind the scenes[]
According to Motomu Toriyama, because characters he had made for the original, like Johnny and the Shinra Middle Manager, were involved with the main story and quests, he was not able to use them freely. Akira was created because Toriyama wanted at least one character he could play around with.[2]
