Ai Hayakawa (アイ・ハヤカワ, Ai Hayakawa) is one of the main characters in Final Fantasy: Unlimited. She acts as the big sister to her twin Yu Hayakawa. When they reached twelve-years old, their parents, the geologists Joe and Marie left their island home of Sadoshima in Japan for their second trip to the Wonderland; the first one resulting in a best-selling book on its flora and fauna. Their parents did not return after a long time, which prompted the twins to go look for them.
Relations
Yu Hayakawa
Ai acts as the impulsive and hyper sister, and while Yu quarrels with her at times, she cares a lot for her twin brother. She enjoys his company and it is evident that they always travel together.
PoshePocket
She obtained PoshePocket, a small handbag or pocket which gives everything Ai's heart desires. The only problem is that Ai's PoshePocket tends to misbehave at times so Ai had its mouth taped up after gobbling up half of their food supply, much to the surprise of the other team members. PoshePocket is referred to by Ai as "scarily cute" because of its huge teeth. This delightful PoshePocket proves to be a great help to Ai on special occasions. Ai got her troublesome and meddling PoshePocket from Fabula and she wasn't very grateful for the troubles it caused in the first place. PoshePocket, despite all the great and occasional troubles it caused, is a great friend and soulmate to Ai, which helps her during the hard times in the show. It often uses its mouth, which is biggest liability to get everyone else out of trouble.
Lisa Pacifist
Initially, Ai had suspicions over Lisa Pacifist and her secret reason to why she traveled to the Wonderland. Furthermore, when Lisa uses her Kigenjutsu, Ai begins to suspect that she is more than meets the eye. However, as their journey went on, Ai appreciates Lisa's company.
Chaos
By the anime's end, it was revealed that Yu and Ai are not ordinary human. They may have been the reason why Kaze's Magun reacts when they get into trouble. In truth, the twins are a part of Chaos, and have never been the Hayakawa's offspring. Yu and Ai were found in the Hayakawa's journey within the Wonderland, left behind by Oscha as part of his scheme to let them mature and ultimately be united with Chaos.
Etymology
The name Ai means "Love". Her name and that of her twin also envoke the words "I" and "You".
