Uses Condemned and Roulette to attack.
Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry
The Ahriman, also known as Veteran, is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI.
Stats
Battle
Ahriman can be dangerous, as they counter magic attacks with Roulette, and can use Doom and Dread Gaze, all attacks that kill party members in some fashion. They often appear in groups of three, or together with a Cherry or Daedalus. They have no elemental weaknesses.
The Ahriman never uses its special attack, called Critical, rendering it a dummied feature.
Metamorphing Ahriman with the Ragnarok esper is an effective way of obtaining Lich Rings and Thornlets, the latter of which can be wagered at the Dragon's Neck Coliseum to win the Mirage Vest. Having a party member cast Metamorph, and then allowing Gogo to repeatedly mimic them (without other intervening attacks) is the most effective method.
Strategy
Group magic, Meteor, and Ultima kill them quickly.
Coliseum setup
With MP-intensive spells like Death and Banish, there's a chance Ahriman will run out during battle, which is especially good if the player has low Stamina and Magic Evasion. Being equipped with Safety Bit/Memento Ring will grant immunity to 75% of its attacks.
