Profile

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Agito appears to be a mythical figure tied to the plans of the world's deities, who seek to find a way of finding nad opening the gateway between the mortal world and the Unseen Realm. According to Hajime Tabata, Agito is someone who can interact and pass between the realms. Finding Agito and using the power of those who make it up is Arecia's means of finding the gateway, in opposition of Gala's method of slaughtering the population of Orience and breaking it down with a flood of souls.

One of the concepts tied up with Agito is the Locus of Ten and Six: this means that in theory sixteen people were needed to create Agito, with their different aspects forming a part of the whole. The original "Locus" was one person, but Arecia eventually decided to make it multiples.[1]

Story

Through the repeating events of Orience's history, the people chosen to be Agito vary, but they appear always to be students of the Peristylium Suzaku, the magical center in the Dominion of Rubrum. In each cycle of history, spiritually depicted in Agito, the warring between the nations eventually promited the arrival of Gala and the Lulusath Army. The Agito candidates would become l'Cie to fight them off, die, Gala would absorb their phantoma and the whole cycle would reset. At some point, Joker and Tiz were deemed by Arecia to not be needed as part of Agito and instead were made her servants, able to remember events through the cycles while the rest of Orience forgot.

During the events of Final Fantasy Type-0, Cid Aulstyne is using the name of Agito to gain support from the people of Milites. The ones chosen to become Agito, Class Zero, are caught up in the 600,104,972nd repeat of events. However, unlike the previous cycles, Class Zero choose not to become l'Cie, which causes a distinct change in the cycle and prompts Arecia to make Gala call his army. After the defeat of the l'Cie Arbiter of Lulusath and the stalling of Finis, Arecia abandons the experiment and decides to allow Orience to remember its past.

Spoilers end here.

Etymology

Agito is a Latin word, roughing translating into "to put in motion". It acts as a reference to both the original game and its sequel being for mobile platforms.[2][3]
