Aerora is a magic spell in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It is granted by either Wind Materia or
Lightning and Wind Materia, and is the mid-tier
Wind-elemental spell above Aero and below Aeroga. Aerora deals moderate wind-elemental damage, with a medium MP cost and casting time. The spell fires a wind projectile at the targeted enemy, that pulls them toward the user.
Use[]
Aerora costs 10 MP to cast with a level 2 wind or lightning and wind materia equipped. The spell is effective generally at damage output but is particularly strong against enemies that are weak to wind (particularly flying enemies). Among its peers—Fira, Blizzara, and Thundara—Aerora's strength is in being able to pull enemies toward the user, though it is slightly less reliable compared to Fira and Thundara.
Aerora outclasses Aero in terms of damage output, though its MP cost means players may cast Aero at times instead. Though Aeroga's damage output is far greater, its longer cast time, MP cost, and the fact it costs two ATB charges means that Aerora will often have many uses still.
Aerora can be amplified by pairing its materia with Support Materia.
HP Absorption Materia and
MP Absorption Materia can increase a party member's sustainability, allowing the spell to heal the user or to be cast more frequently, respectively.
Magic Focus Materia can increase the spell's damage against individual targets.
Magnify Materia can make for a powerful combination when it hits all enemies at once, providing a way to pull multiple enemies toward the user and lead to a follow-up attack.
Magic Efficiency Materia can reduce the spell's cost and
Swiftcast Materia reduce its cast time, though these boosts are better for Aeroga than for Aerora.
Using Aerora with Aerith's Arcane Ward will cast it twice. Further using Yuffie with Doppelganger when in Arcane Ward can cast Aerora four times, potentially overwhelming enemies.
If the party member casting Aerora has unlocked their wind-elemental weapon ability (e.g. Jet Stream for Aerith), Aerora becomes Aerora α, which will bestow a wind-elemental sphere to the spellcaster for the rest of the battle (unless the player changes the element with Blizzard α etc.) that will supplement small magical wind-elemental damage when defending against certain enemy attacks (perfect-blocking not needed) and when using ATB abilities. The attacks from the "wind sphere" do build stagger and can be critical hits.
