Aerora is a magic ability for Lightning in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It is the second tier of the Aero spells, dealing magic wind-elemental damage to mutliple foes in a small radius.

Aerora is also used when the player casts Firestorma, Icestorma, Elementa, and the finale of Aero+.

Obtained[]

An Aerora Lv. 2 ability can be found in a treasure sphere at the end of the long path East of Poltae in the Wildlands.

The L'automne garb purchasable from Canopus Farms on Day 8 has Aerora Lv. 3 as its locked ability.

Aerora can be obtained as a drop from several enemies. Gaunts and Dryads have a 15% chance of dropping the ability, the former having an increased 30% drop rate after being staggered. The Dryad Ω has a 100% drop rate. Lastly, the Zomok enemy has a 22.5% chance of dropping the ability. The enemies drop different levels of the ability on the following days and difficulties:

Mechanics[]

When used, Lightning launches a small whirlwind at the target, dealing four wind-elemental magic attacks to multiple targets in a small radius around the selected enemy. By default, Aerora Lv. 1 has an ATB cost of 25, an attack power of 0.15 per hit (0.60 together), a Stagger Power of B, and a Stagger Time of E. When fully upgraded, Aerora Lv. 5 at max has an ATB cost of 15, an attack power of 0.91 per hit (3.64 together), a Stagger Power of B, and a Stagger Time of E. All versions share a 3 hit finale trigger and have the same finale modifier of x1.50.

Aerora is also used by Angel of Valhalla on bond level 3, replacing his previous Aero spell.

The Aeronite, Cactair, Caius Ballad, Ereshkigal, Gaunt, Gaunt Ω, Gremlin Ω, and Noel Kreiss+ enemies use Aerora against Lightning. It is also used by the final boss and its upgraded form during the second phase.

Use[]

Aerora is useful when tackling encounters with multiple enemies weak to wind-elemental magic damage. Due to Aerora hitting 4 times with each cast, it is an excellent ability to used when building up an enemy's stagger wave and interrupting them.

Due to many enemies in Dead Dunes having stagger conditions involving wind-elemental attacks and interruptions, Aerora is a must to have equipped when tackling its main scenario. Several Aerora casts in conjunction with Aero and Aero+ can easily stagger the Grendel and Parandus bosses fought during the location's scenario.

A combination of Aero and Aerora can be used to trigger staggers faster on most enemies inflicted Imperil, especially on New Game+, allowing for players to defeat enemies like the Chocobo Eater and Earth Eater with less difficulty.
