Deals wind damage.
Description
Aeroga, also known as Aero 3, is a Blue Magic spell in Final Fantasy V. It deals large wind-elemental damage to one target or an entire party. The spell is similar to the Black Magic spells Firaga, Blizzara, and Thundaga (with a slightly higher spell power). Aeroga is useful against enemies weak to wind, but is costly to cast.
The player may also use this ability by catching and releasing a Ziggurat Gigas while fighting a Zephyrus, or from Baldanders.
Obtained[]
The earliest Aeroga can be obtained from the Metamorph in Ghido's Cave, while it is in its Enchanted Fan form.
It can later be learned from Magic Dragon, Elm Gigas, Crystal (#280), Baldanders, Neo Exdeath (Back), Dark Elemental (Grand Aevis), Enuo, Cherie, and Ziggurat Gigas (Zephyrus). Cherie and Ziggurat Gigas will not use Aeroga normally, meaning Control must be used.
Mechanics[]
As a spell, Aeroga's damage is calculated as follows:
If the target absorbs wind, it is healed instead of damaged; if it is immune to wind, the attack misses. If the target resists wind, the Attack modifier in the formula is halved, but if it is weak to wind, the modifier is doubled and the attack ignores the target's Magic Defense. Aeroga is affected by Reflect.
Aeroga's damage can be boosted with the Air Knife or Magus Rod, or the Elemental Power mix.
Use[]
Blue Mages can use Aeroga as an offensive spell once it is acquired. Aeroga outclasses Aero and Aera in terms of damage output, but has a much higher MP cost. This cost is somewhat prohibitive, meaning it should not be used too often.
Aeroga is best used at targeting enemies weak to wind. Against such enemies, it will do immense damage, and in some cases can kill them in one hit. As a commonly used spell, Aeroga is too prohibitive to use frequently, especially in comparison to some Black Magic spells. Unlike Black Magic spells, Aeroga is incompatible with Spellblade and Dualcast. The summon Syldra is more powerful than Aeroga, and affects all enemies for no split damage penalty, but also costs more MP.
Using Aeroga on Azulmagia teaches him the spell and he will begin to use it against the party.

Etymology[]
Aero is a Greek prefix relating to air and flight. Common usages in modern times include the words "aeroplane" and "aerospace". The "-ga" suffix denotes it is the level three form of the base Aero spell.
