Aero is a magic spell in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It is granted by either Wind Materia Wind Materia or Lightning and Wind Materia Lightning and Wind Materia, and is the basic Wind Wind-elemental spell below Aerora Aerora and Aeroga Aeroga. Aero deals a small amount of wind-elemental damage, but has the lowest MP cost, and the shortest casting time. The spell fires a wind projectile at the targeted enemy that pulls them toward the user.

Aero costs 4 MP to cast with a level 1 wind or lightning and wind materia equipped. The spell is effective generally but is particularly strong against enemies that are weak to wind (particularly flying enemies). Among its peers—Fire Fire, Blizzard Blizzard, and Thunder Thunder—Aero's strength is in being able to pull enemies toward the user, though it is slightly less reliable compared to Fire and Thunder.

Although Aero is outclassed by Aerora, Aero's short cast time and low MP cost mean it remains useful. As party members' Magic Attack Magic Attack increases, the spell becomes stronger, meaning it can even be effective (albeit less ATB-efficient) against stronger enemies with a wind-elemental weakness. Though Aero is also outclassed by Aeroga, Aeroga requires two ATB charges to use.

Aero can be amplified with Support Materia Support Materia. The spell is cast automatically by party members with paired either wind or lightning and wind materia with Synergy Materia Synergy Materia or Auto-Cast Materia Auto-Cast Materia. This is useful in battles against enemies weak to wind, as it can overwhelm them with damage. The HP Absorption Materia HP Absorption Materia and MP Absorption Materia MP Absorption Materia can increase a party member's sustainability when using the spell. Magic Focus Materia Magic Focus Materia can increase the spell's damage. Magnify Materia Magnify Materia can make for a powerful combination when it hits all enemies at once, and can pull all enemies toward the user (potentially leading to a strong follow-up attack). Magic Efficiency Materia Magic Efficiency Materia and Swiftcast Materia Swiftcast Materia are effectively redundant with the spell, and should be used with Aerora and Aeroga instead.

Using Aero with Aerith's Arcane Ward will cast it twice. Further using Yuffie with Doppelganger when in Arcane Ward can cast Aero four times, potentially overwhelming enemies.

If the party member casting Aero has unlocked their wind-elemental weapon ability (e.g. Jet Stream for Aerith), Aero becomes Aero α, which will bestow a wind-elemental sphere to the spellcaster for the rest of the battle (unless the player changes the element with Blizzard α etc.) that will supplement small magical wind-elemental damage when defending against certain enemy attacks (perfect-blocking not needed) and when using ATB abilities. The attacks from the "wind sphere" do build stagger and can be critical hits.
