Aero is a White Magic spell in Final Fantasy III. It is a level 2 White Magic spell, being one of the few directly offensive White Magic spells available, alongside Aeroga, Tornado, and Holy. It deals some form of wind-elemental damage to targets, while also having the ability to be group-casted on all targets. The spell also deals extra damage against flying enemies.

Obtained[]

A single Aero spell can be found in a chest on Dragon's Peak. It can later be bought in Tozus for 700 gil.

Aero can be used by the White Mage, Devout, and Sage jobs in all versions. Additionally, the Red Mage gains access to the spell in the Pixel Remaster and 3D remakes, while the Onion Knight job can also use Aero in the latter. Princess Sara and Prince Alus can also randomly cast Aero against enemies when they join the party as guests.

Depending on the versions, certain weapons can use Aero when used as items in battle. In the 2D versions, the Wyvern Claws, Wind Spear, and Air Knife can cast Aero. In the 3D remake, the Wyvern Claws loses the ability to cast the spell as item magic.

Mechanics[]

Pixel Remaster and 3D remakes[]

In the 3D and Pixel Remaster versions, Aero deals wind-elemental damage, along with having a spell power of 40 and its damage also being calculated with the caster's Intelligence (3D) and Mind (PR) stats. It can also be reflected in both versions.

Famicom[]

In the original Famicom version, Aero inflicts both wind and ice-elemental damage. It has set numerical value ranges on how much damage it will deal, with the values being based on the user's job proficiency level. The following are Aero's damage values from the Famicom release:[1]

Proficiency level Damage Value
1 - 19 45 - 90 HP
20 - 39 135 - 180 HP
40 - 59 225 - 315 HP
60 - 79 315 - 360 HP
80 - 98 405 - 495 HP
99 495 - 585 HP

Other appearances[]

The Final Fantasy III version of Aero appeared as an ability and as a Legend summon in Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade. Both ability and Legend cards depict Princess Sara from the title on them. The ability card was an SR/SR+ INT card, allowing the player to deal INT-based damage to a boss. When the Legend card was used, Sara would charge into the battlefield to cast Aero and dealt damage to boss encounters.
