Story[edit | edit source]
Act 2, Ch. 7: Respite's Authenticity[edit | edit source]
Sephiroth seizes the throne of the goddess Materia and declares himself a god of the world of respite. He creates numerous dark manikins of Zack who assume the forms and memories of the warriors of light. The clones infiltrate the warriors' ranks, destined to decay into monsters before turning on their demoralized allies. Aerith observes the clones of Galuf and Bartz decay as she and the warriors travel across a rainy plain. As more warrior-clones turn, Zack's dark manikin approaches her and Zack. The dark manikin cryptically comments on how the goddess's idea of respite was to bring Aerith and Cloud by Zack's side. Aerith asks Zack's dark manikin to explain what is happening, and the dark manikin agrees to battle Zack so their memories could be reunited. Aerith and Cloud stand by and watch as Zack reclaims memories of his past life.

- Aerith's alternate costume artwork does not depict her wielding a weapon, unlike most of the other characters' artworks. This likely alludes of Aerith's non-combatant status in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
