Battle[]

As the Adamantoise has high Defense and HP, it is suggested to slowly take it down with powerful abilities to defeat it. Beware when Oversouled, as its ability Breath of the Gorgon will inflict major Fire damage and Petrification on the whole party.

Creature Creator[]

The Adamantoise can be captured with a Trap pod L in the Calm Lands anytime during the game until the Ruin Depths dungeon is unlocked, after which the Flan Azabache will appear in its place.

The Adamantoise boasts incredibly high stats all across the board, including max HP, Magic, Defense, Magic Defense, and Agility. This makes it highly useful at any stage throughout the game. It starts with Attack, Defense Up, Tremor, Ailment Def., and Total Limit Break. In battle, it will be able to learn Adamant Breath in battle once its Level is at least 30.

Fiend Tale[]

In the Fiend Tale endings, one notable Adamantoise is created from the combined souls of a seafaring crew who were killed by Sin while on route back to Kilika. Its form being a reflection of their ship, the Adamantoise, the fiend only departed to the Farplane once it fulfilled its component souls' desire to return to their homeland.

Fiend Arena[]

A stronger version of the Adamantoise appears in the Fiend Arena alongside an Aquila as part of the Ark Legend team, available after completing the Aquila's fiend tale. It boasts a larger array of attacks, including Meteor, Black Sky, and Ultima, making it much more dangerous especially when combined with the Aquila's high Speed and Evasion. However, it no longer has its Breath of the Gorgon attack that it normally would use in Oversoul.

Etymology[]

Adamantoise is a portmanteau of "adamantite" and "tortoise".

Adamantite and similar words including Adamant and Adamantine are used to refer to any especially hard substance, whether composed of diamond, some other gemstone, or some type of metal.
